On January 24th, 29 students participated in the school finale of “Jugend Debattiert”, a competition sponsored by the Departement of Education in order to promote democracy in schools. The topics of this years school competition were: – Should the German military be allowed to advertise at public schools for a future career as a sol-dier? (Sekundarstufe I) – Should the school implement a subject regarding the vast development of the climate change? (Sekundarstufe II) All of the participants gave their best at preparing and presenting their respective sides. Unfortuna-tely, only eight students were able to get into the next round which is the regional tournament in Es-sen. The students who presented their skills at the school finale are now being asked to show their know-how at the regional qualifications this week.
